Onward & Upward?

| 21 Comments | No TrackBacks
As you may have now gathered I have decided to keep this blog going for another 12 months.

I have to say I was wavering until the Academy inexplicably failed to release its GCSE results into the public domain.
I cannot to understand why the schools principal has taken this decision.
I cannot understand why the schools sponsors have allowed him to take this decision.
I cannot understand why the schools governors have allowed him to take this decision.
I cannot understand how the DCSF are not forcing this school to release its figures.
I cannot understand why no staff member has spoke out about this abject failure.

Consultation My Left Foot

Having now read this document available on the Academy Company website it is clear in my mind that this consultation is simply a PR exercise for a single site Academy.

Have a read for yourself and see what conclusion you come to.

PS
MC2 and Mouchel are nowhere near as good as concocting a biased consultation document as Cumbria County Council and CN Group Research are!

I have been asked to put this short post on the site by a couple of the pupils.

This Blog & It's Future.

Well it's nearly the end of the first week of Furness Academy Limited actually getting down to the business of educating the children in it's care.
As with all new schools there has been a few problems with timetabling, some lessons missing, some kids 'double booked' for example which is too be expected given the short time the timetable compiler has had to integrate three totally different school systems into one as well as try and 'meld' four different curriculum's into the school day.
She has used the Evening Mail's learning supplement to put forwards her point of view about what the new company which she helped bring into existence will do for 40% of Barrows secondary children over the coming months and years.

Numbers Never Lie Reprise

Here's a timely reminder to show what the Thorncliffe team and Doug are up against with their 'carefully' worked out results targeting.

It is well worth bearing in mind that Doug and the sponsors have set out their own targets that they think their team can achieve. This is a pointless exercise as the banking collapse has shown. The banks set their own targets and as a result have taken our country into massive debt.

Targeting like this serves no purpose whatsoever because unlike a sales rep who has their targets set by a superior here we have a nice little club setting their own targets that they think they will be capable of hitting. Whether they do or not the DCSF will not dissolve an Academy company as recent history has proved.

Now it has been removed from public scrutiny by the DCSF Furness Academy Limited can no longer blame the 'vociferous minority' for any failings so they need another scapegoat. No prizes for guessing whose fault it'll be.

One final thing. The number of GCSE's or as will be the case in the Furness Academy Limited world, diplomas, a child does or doesn't get is irrelevant really. To say that without such qualifications kids can only enter the adult world at a 'menial' level so they must gain qualifications is wrong.

Making sure each child leaves school being able to read, write and understand everyday mathematics is much more important but this cannot be accurately measured so it is ignored by government and schools. Thousands of British kids leave secondary school every year in this illiterate state. Sadly 2009 will be no different.

Letters & Other Stuff

Here is a random collection of letters and charts that I have accumulated.
You shouldn't have.
As is the norm for this government it is intent on using a sledgehammer to crack a nut as this article clearly shows.
If it is will to go to these lengths to 'exert control' over you and your children imagine what they are doing by passing control of your children's education over to a private company built on the evangelising nutter's ethos, visions and dreams.

The good thing is this article has links to all manner of home education web sites and I have included them below the article.

What does Moira, Anne, Dave, Neil, Doug or even Mr Vernon Coaker or any of the staff with jobs at FA Limited have to say about this?
