Would You Vote For Vernon?

This is a perfect example of what is wrong with Britain's education system, in my humble opinion.
Borrowed in it's entirety from here

Wrong, wrong, wrong

Vernon Croaker on Tory Schools proposals.
With no planning restrictions schools will be able to open... without the sort of decent facilities all children should have.
He doesn't get it, yes in an ideal world all schools would have all manner of facilities to educate children with, however this is about parental choice, not governmental regulation or what education authorities say is the minimum requirement.
If parents are happy enough to send their kids to a school that's based in the village pub/hall/pre-fab then that's up to the parents, most just want what's best for their kids, something that recent governments seem to have forgotten in their ever increasing politicisation and dumbing down of school children.

Croaker then goes to blow his entire argument out of the water by stating.
"Tory councillors agree with us, and growing evidence from Sweden, that this policy is not just un-costed, unworkable and unfair, but would also set back the big improvements in school standards we have seen over the last twelve years."
That would be the making exams so easy anyone can pass them? Or the steady rise in truancy? (Note the figures only go to 2007 because the government stopped the count then) How about the addition of useless lessons to the curriculum such as global warming, citizenship and Britishness (only available in England, go figure). Or there's the fact that the UK is tumbling down an international league table of graduation rates and now sends a smaller proportion of school leavers to university than the Slovak republic, Ireland or Portugal.

Education, education, education? Croaker should hang his head in shame at what the education system in the UK has become under Labour.

And here's something to counteract the Stonewall perspective on life!

Lord birkett was the greatest barrister of his age, presiding over the most famous cases of the age including the abdication crisis. The used to walk from ulverston to his school at alfred barrow. There was no grand sports hall, no vivo miles, no principal on 135k. Yet he got a double first from oxford.

What happened to the wonderful satire sundays. Several of us miss them and think, with recent events, tis an opportune moment for their timely return! ?

Derek why has an anti-homophobia group now become the target of your hate?

It's satire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which you sadly don't get do you?
Do a search for satire sunday on this blog and you will get an education. It was a regular feature last year but has sadly dropped off this.

Ah right, satire! So if you substituted the word gay for black/disabled that would be satire too would it?

Hi Doug
I don't hate or love Stonewall.
I like you am free to watch, listen, read or totally ignore Stonewall and their message.
School children should also have that same freedom but they don't and that is wrong in my book.

Stonewall are a fake charity funded almost entirely by the Government and are then set free to promote their message in schools across the land. They are not alone there are hundreds of them, many funded directly by the DCSF.
This is wrong.

If Stonewall, for example, wants to spend its own money putting its message out then fine that's up to them.
If Stonewall wants to make a film about homophobic bullying funded by its own money then fine it's up to them.
If Stonewall wants to show this film in a school and the headmaster of that school decides it's okay and then sends a letter to parents asking them if they want their children to attend this showing fine because parents are the people who should have the final say in what their children watch.

Another is the School Food Trust set up to promote healthy eating in schools. They are funded entirely by the DCSF and whilst their aims may be laudable they have failed miserably to persuade children and parents to eat the way the School Food Trust says they have to!
They have blown millions of pounds on this failure and are spending millions more trying to persuade people that the School Food Trust prescriptions are better for them.
They produce everything that Stonewall do, pamplets, articles, web sites, films etc, etc and provide "experts" for interview to "promote" their chosen solution and yet they fail to change anything, except add to the mountain of food waste this country produces every day.

As with Stonewall if the School Food Trust were wasting their own money then fine. I have no truck with that.
If they can get donations or subscriptions in to fund their activities then good for them.
What I really do have a problem with is Edward Balls deciding there is another problem for the state to solve so creates a body of the righteous and then simply hands over millions of pounds of taxpayers money to these people to spend as they see fit.

The right thing to do, if it really is right for the state to force people to eat in a prescribed manner deemed to be healthy by the righteous, is to pile tax onto fat and sugar in the same way they have to tobacco products making fatty and sugary foods more expensive and "healthy" foods appear cheaper.

However they will not do that as it would be political suicide so they won't do it just like they won't ban tobacco products.

The quicker this country is rid of people like Edward Balls and the DCSF is broken up into its constituent parts creating an education ministry that actively supports local heads who really do want to do the best they can for their local communities children the better.

Derek

Hello again
Are you really objecting to the use of the word "gay" in that spoof Stonewall/brickwall poster?

Derek

Here's the link where the poster originated from.
http://grumpyoldtwat.blogspot.com/2010/02/gobby-gayers.html

Like the majority of homosexuals in this country I think Stonewall are a pack of w*****s!

Hi Brodie
Other projects that generate income are taking up most of my time so satire has been and will continue to be thin on the ground for a while longer yet, sorry.

Derek

Thanks derek I wish you well . doug thanks to you for your pearl of wisdom - i think my limited intelligence is able to understand what satire is. Sadly, however, yours doesn't seem to! Such is life!
