And Then There Was One!

Thanks to commenter Eric I took a tootle over to TES jobs and lo and behold I found...
This!

Salary: £72,000 On the retirement of the present post-holder, Dave Kelly, the Governing Body is looking for an exceptional individual with the leadership skills and strategic vision to build on existing achievements. The largest Sixth Form provider in the County, Barrow in Furness Sixth Form College specialises in advanced level courses for its 900+ full time 16-19 year old students. The College has built a strong reputation for academic attainment, effective pastoral support and a varied programme of enrichment activities. Students achieve better than expected results as measured by ALPS.

So first Neil Simco departs for a Highland post, or as far away from the impending collapse as I was told. I assumed he was escaping the demise of the University of Cumbria but perhaps my assumption was wrong.

Now the second of the sponsors of this Academy and a director of the Company which runs it Mr David Kelly is retiring.

Well well well!
Commenter James P was also bang on the money with his wheels are coming off rant.

Thank you both.

So that leaves a lone sponsor and director of the Academy. Some who know her better than I say 'dictator' I couldn't possibly comment.

Suffice to say this time last year we were told by Veronon, Edward, John and Moira that having three educational sponsors of the Academy is unique and they will deliver a 21st Century learning blah, blah.

Anne Dave & Neil then went and hired one Douglas Blackledge and all backed him as the 'best man for the job'. Anne went even further and had a rant at those of us who disagreed with her blind faith in a suspended vice-principal from a Doncaster Academy. She said

"I can honestly say that the unbelievers are going to look very silly next year as we celebrate the first birthday of one of the best academies in the country."

Well who is looking very silly now Mrs Attwood?

  • Neils jumped ship.
  • Dave is jumping ship.
  • Moira is jumping ship.
  • John is jumping ship.
  • Every teacher who is able to is jumping ship?

  • The principal, your 'best man for the job' is out of touch, has never gained the respect of most of the staff, is allegedly pre-occupied with the business community, is pre-occupied with the kids appearance, allegedly doesn't consult his management, allegedly rules by dictatorship, amongst many other things.

  • You have never formed a governing body as the DCSF guidelines required you to.

  • In fact you and your fellow sponsors, whilst they were in their jobs, ignored most of what is in the DCSF How To Build An Academy Guide book.

  • You have never engaged with the public preferring to rub shoulders with the great and the good.

  • You invited the Evening Mails editor on board as a governor of your college soon after his arrival and the public announcement of the Academy plans.

  • The Year 11's have had their one shot at GCSE's put at risk by the number of teachers leaving the ship.

  • The Year 7's are the guinea pigs for the  Learning Zone approach that doesn't appear to be achieving anything. Remember the graffiti curriculum?

  • The number of supply teachers is growing week in week out.

  • Your PR company is clueless.

  • The intelligence of the public is insulted with the sham one site consultation.

  • You yourself have said nothing about anything since the school opened and seem happy to keep your own counsel whilst all around you this Academy is falling apart.

  • There is no public support for you, for your leadership, for your management, for your seemingly blind belief that you know better than the towns parents what is right for their children simply because you are a principal of a college.

Under your watch it is looking increasingly like we are witnessing the utter destruction and total devastation of what was, just 8 short months ago an improving and stable secondary education system in Barrow,
by dismantling three perfectly good schools,
by destroying three perfectly good teaching groups,
by forcing these same teachers into something the majority never believed in,
by pulling the wool over enough parents eyes to get the badly prepared project rushed through,
by publicly accusing concerned parents of brainwashing their own children.
You have been aided by Moira Swann, Anne Burns, Stuart Young, Jim Buchanan John Hutton, Vernon Coaker, Ed Balls and many Barrovian parents who either don't give a damn or are too scared of taking responsibility for their actions but at the end of the day Mrs Attwood the failure is on your watch.

Worst of all the education of 1700 Barrovian children has been put at risk and it didn't have to be this way.

In my humble opinion

The time has come for you to exit, stage left.
