And From Across The Pond

Comes this story which very succinctly shows what is happening in our state schools even though the post features an American college...
As the late Adrian Rogers said, "you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

An economics professor at a local college said that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich - a great equaliser.

To counter this, the professor said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.

The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little, studied even less and those who had previously studied hard, decided they wanted a free ride. So they too studied little.

The second test average was a D!

No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Couldn't be any simpler than that.

From an excellent blog *be warned that although there is an awful lot of common sense on this blog there are profanities so please if written profanity offends don't go visit!

No surprises here.
If the rewards are removed from any endeavour by the government then what is the point in embarking on that endeavour in the first place?

Latest information on the whole debate provided by virtue of Wikipedia. This was added earlier this year, by whom I don't know.

Issue resolved??!!

Furness Academy North Site is the name of a secondary school in the British town of Barrow-in-Furness. It is part of the overall Furness Academy (alongside the South Site). The current building and school was known up to 2009 as Thorncliffe School. It is expected that in 2012 all students from the North Site will be transferred to a newly constructed building on the South Site, which is expected to have a capacity of 1,500 students. As yet it is unknown what exactly will happen to the soon to be unoccupied buildings of the North Site academy.

It would seem so!
from wikipedia south site
"The new High School styled academy will be situated on two sites from September 2009, although as stated earlier, it will not be until later that new buildings are constructed on the former site of Parkview. It is still considered by many to be Parkview School, although it currently runs under a different name with different uniforms etc."
