John Hutton Speaks

Well he had to really didn't he?
He was after all the architect of the two site solution which was sold to the parents involved.
DUAL campus advocate John Hutton has welcomed public consultation over the prospect of Furness Academy moving lock, stock and barrel to Parkview.
The Barrow and Furness MP had been one of the original driving forces behind the academy developing on the two sites.
Correction Evening Mail reporter he was THE driving force behind the two sites. He put it forwards as a compromise. This paper and its staff seem to have short memories!

But Mr Hutton yesterday told The Evening Mail the most important issue was the future education of young people in the area.
He said: "It is entirely right and proper for the academy sponsors, management and governors to share with parents, staff and the wider community any difficulties they have encountered in developing the academy.
To be blunt there is more chance of kissing the Popes backside than this happening.

"I welcome the fact that they are bringing these matters to parents and are consulting on what might be the best means to resolve the difficulties they are outlining.

"It would be wrong to pre-empt the outcome of any such consultation.
Hasn't stopped you before Mr Hutton so why change your position now?

"I hope all will engage constructively in the process so that the best possible solution can be found that meets the needs and aspirations of all in our community.

"The academy management and sponsors are rightly focused on trying to develop first class facilities for our young people and I am certain they have the support of all in trying to do so."

Mr Hutton's potential successor John Woodcock - Labour parliamentary candidate - claims the 'so-called experts' have let parents and pupils down.
He is in actual fact electioneering and have used red as the highlight for this reason. Note there is no comments sought from Mr Gough, Conservative, or even Barry Rabone, Liberal Democrat, who is himself a teacher!

He said: "I think the academy's principal deserves praise for putting the future of our young people first and going out to consultation again with the changed circumstances.

"It is vital we ensure that this massive investment in schools from the Labour government is spent in the best possible way so our young people get the help they deserve to reach their potential.

"But that said, many parents will be very frustrated that the so-called experts in charge of the process failed to highlight what seem to be pretty fundamental objections to expanding the Thorncliffe site.

"It is essential that the officials responsible provide a full explanation for this failure to parents, teachers and the elected representatives that endorsed the one-site solution in the first place."

Bit of history for Mr Woodcock.
Very few parents 'endorsed' the one site solution. A large minority opposed it but the overwhelming majority stuck their heads in the sand. ALL of the elected representatives at Borough and County level endorsed the one site plan. The only elected representative who didn't was Mr John Hutton MP.
As for the teachers most found themselves in a cleft stick!
