LEADING students from a new school celebrated the end of the first term with a glitzy Christmas celebration.
Barrow's Furness Academy held its first Prefects' Dinner Dance at The Coot on the Tarn, Great Urswick, on Tuesday (DEC15).
The 120 prefects attend Furness Academy North Site or South Site, but they also previously represented the three predecessor schools, Thorncliffe, Alfred Barrow, and Parkview, which closed to form Furness Academy in September.
The students, and 40 academy staff , dressed in smart suits and dresses and enjoyed a four course meal.
There were speeches from the school's head boys and head girls, from North Site Rogan Devlin and Catherine Higgins, and from South Site Alex Danson and Nyomi Woodend, and from Douglas Blackledge, the academy principal and chief executive.
The students took to the floor for some ballroom dancing, which they have been rehearsing with Margaret Hetherington, and then enjoyed a disco.
Students and staff agreed the event was a huge success and said it provided a great example of the coming together of students and staff over the past months since the academy was formed in September.
Alex Danson, 15, head boy of South Site, said: "Everyone really enjoyed themselves and it is hoped that the great example of Tuesday night will lay the foundations for future Prefects' Dinner Dances."
LinkYear 11's were the prefects at Parkview so clearly the current Year 11's would have been Year 10's during the last year of Parkviews existence and therefore couldn't have been representing Parkview!
Can't say about Alfs and Thorncliffe. But it would help if the Evening Mail did a modicum of research before publishing.
Thoncliffe's head boy and girl were chosen in year 10. They did their headship duties for the last term of last year when the year 11's are concentrating on exams.
The Mail has never been strong on facts preferring exclusives, celebrity and sensationalism to carry the day.
If there is really one school why are there two head boys, two head girls and two vice principals?
