Seen as how Ed Balls wants all Academies to be registered as charities, the only logical reason for this is that they are able to avoid taxation whereas all state schools that remain in Local Authority control are taxed to the hilt, I decided to have a look at the other Cumbrian Academies on the Charities Commission page.
I find taxing any school an abomination as they are supposed to be providing the young people of the country with an education.

As you can see West Lakes has a Local area of benefit but the Richard Rose Trust area is The UK. So obviously Richard Rose Foundation was and is looking to sponsor Academies in places other than Carlisle such as Barrow for example.
It seems to lend credence to the story that the big Dave, Moira and Scowcroft meeting 'If he's in (Scowcroft) I am out (Kelly) actually did take place and Scowcroft & Tinkler did have designs on the Fourth Academy.
Soon Furness Academy Limited will be transformed into a registered charity probably after the sham document 'The Business Case' has been submitted to the DCSF mandarins.

I am also very concerned at the way the school i loved is spiralling out of control. In one of my classes there are nine who are regularly truant and nothing is done. A friend saw the principal and his wife in the candle factory at 4pm during a school day. Also i know several ccc consultantr who tell me the 3 at the academy have been pulled from other key projects to be there.
I thought the Academy school day ran from 8-40 am till 3-05 pm?
Dougie stressed to the staff that the working day was 5 o'clock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well just what we all knew really - we've got a principal without principals! I console myself with the belief that when he fails to deliver on his promises/targets he'll be told to sling his hook.He will definately be the "fall guy" when it all goes t**t* up.I hope that is some consolation for the staff,children and parents.Incidentally I was speaking to an aquaintance(and an ex thorncliffe staff member) who told me that staff morale is extremely low and there are several off with work related stress.Does anybody know Mrs Attwood's and the other sponsors views on all of this?They are very quiet.
Assuming Mr. Blackledge has said school day finishes at 5, then he should practice what he preaches, because I bet the staff are terrified to put a foot wrong, therefore he should be too.
However whether he said that or not, he should be working every hour God sends to get this school into order.
I can only go by the standards of his dedicated predecessors in Thorncliffe, Mr. Wilson and Mr. Sinton, who really did work every hour God sent to sort our school out and I believe leaving at 7 o'clock was not unusual. The problems we are now facing in this cobbled together affair demand this commitment and more.
His wage alone demands extreme commitment above and beyond his predecessors, knocking off early is not an option until this mess is all sorted out.
He is not 'Joe Standard' who can leave at 3.45 to have tea I am afraid.
She isn't saying anything about the Academy too wrapped up in her shiny new college building probably but here's a timely reminder of something she said last year. Don't believe a word of it myself but she obviously does!

Mrs Attwood , Furness College's principal since 2003, said:
"But what an opportunity. We cannot afford to turn this down for our young people. It will give the children of Barrow world class facilities."
"There will also be improvement of the buildings of Walney and St Bernard's. This academy will have local sponsors from education rather than business sponsors. We had to fight for that. We had to get the government to agree to that.
"It will be very much a school for Barrow, run by the people of Barrow. It's a unique partnership. It cannot be compared to anything that has gone before.
"We will stay in contact with the people of Barrow throughout the whole process. We want transparency. We want to talk to the people of Barrow about the curriculum, buildings and uniform. There will be a lot of consultation to get views."
I work in FA and nothing doug and his mrs do shocks me anymore. The Candle factory outing is nothing. I'm suprised the 2 of them ever get any work done because they are always running around after each other and my guess is that it is only a matter of time before they're kicked down the drive. Doug gave Lisa that job at somebody elses expense and I think it's bloody scandalous. It is supposedly being investigated by the unions but I won't hold my breath. It wouldn't be so bad if she actually had a clue but her reputation for being useless is growing by the day. While the rest of us are working and being seen to toe the academy line she does as she pleases because she can. It's amazing how Doug (or whoever wrote it for him) managed to twist the whole mess in his latest statement. Academy teacher two is right the LA are not coming in because all is well they're there because it's all going t**s up. I spend my life looking for another job because this academy is a total sham and the sooner I get out of there the better. If I don't find something soon I'll be joining many of my colleagues on the sick!!!
Looks like year 11s are going to take the whole brunt of this mess.
If it does go t**ts up and half the staff are on the sick, it is going to be hell for them.
Having been through all this scenario before, ie virulent staff sickness, I am extremely worried.
Whilst trying to bring this school down through these actions may seem the only way, I am afraid using my child’s education as a punch bag is not acceptable.
I can only praise those dedicated staff who rise above it all and continue to give my child the education it deserves.
I hate this whole saga, would love to see it back in LA control, but we missed that boat long ago when there was no support to stop it.
However angry you are please think of our children before you take any rash actions. There has to be other ways of sorting this mess, than ruining the education of our children.
I see Mr. Lee is again ignoring concerns sent on Furness Academy have your say. Obviously, as we have been previously told, he is forwarding them to Ann, Dougie and Swann. The teachers concerns on this site are very worrying. SPECIAL NEEDS HERE WE COME and then Moira will have all her academies in special needs. She must be so proud. And we pay this lunatics wages.

Had the Academy company sponsors and Moira had the balls to stand four square behind their arguments instead of relying on spin and secrecy way back in 2007 and ENGAGE really engage with parents and pupils then things would have been so much better. As it is...
