As mad as that sounds that is the reality.
But as ever people can simply say 'no' to Identity Limited sales staff. It's not like they are being locked in until they buy or anything. If people are daft enough to buy a uniform for a non existent school then more fool them.
Identity Limited have been ringing round when people fail to turn up for their 'appointment'.
How the hell did Identity Limited, a private company selling school uniforms, obtain the contact details of every child in Parkview, Alfred Barrow and Thorncliffe?
It seems that the three schools were asked for this information by Furness College.
Quite what it has to do with Furness College is not clear... except for one thing. Furness College is an educational institution so it is within the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998 for them to ask another educational institution for these private details provided they have a good reason.
I personally cannot see why they need them at all.
There are no reasons good or bad for Furness College to need this information... except that Furness Academy Limited is based in Furness College premises. Furness Academy Limited is just another private company and it isn't clear if it is they are there as a 'guest' of Furness College or there as a paying tenant but it, as small as it is, is based in Furness College.
So Furness College do not seem to be breaching any Acts of Parliament by obtaining this information from the three schools. I say 'seem' because I'm sure a 'valid reason' could be produced if they were forced to produce one but I have never seen one.
If Anne or any of her staff would care to put the real reason into the comments below I would be very grateful.
It then seems like they may in fact breach the Data Protection Act 1998 by handing these details over to Furness Academy Limited or Identity Limited.
Either scenario is equally likely and there is also the third scenario that they actually handed them over to both private companies.
I have asked the Information Commission about the investigation procedure and the man on the end of the phone said it will take a minimum of six weeks and given the fact that the college are on holiday and running on a skeleton staff probably significantly longer.
Identity Limited are using this source of information which none of their competitors have to ring round parents who do not collect their uniforms because I have learnt that they do not get 'paid' by the government if any uniform items they have purchased to supply the 'free' offer are not physically collected hence the phone call.
So yet another example of the ambiguity that seems to be deliberately deployed in every aspect of this scheme. Why is open to question but it's there nevertheless.

Here's some sound advice found on the Evening Mail comments boards
"A Davies
Go on this web site or ring them.
They
are very helpful and the person I spoke to couldn't understand why
Furness College would want to obtain my child's information to pass on
to Identity without my permission especially as they are not students
of their college!
